Project 5: Panorama

The duck pond at the Eden Park Overlook

Project 7: Alex's Story

Alex has definite likes and dislikes and his moods are often defined by them. He has a busy life, work, music, basketball games at the rec center, hanging with the young men who are his caregivers. Despite his many physical and neurological challenges, Alex has beaten the odds and has a life independent of his parents.

A few of his favorite things:

French fries and chicken fingers.

Pushing shopping carts in Target and WalMart.

His cassette recorder and MILLIONS of tapes. They include his own recordings, music from the 50's - 90's, old radio comedies and dramas.

Videotapes. He loves to record the weather and old Matlock programs.

Cookies...especially fresh chocolate chip.

Music. He plays the keyboard, guitar, and drums.

His family. He adores his brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews. He talks to them on the phone every week.

He works at Easter Seals but refuses to leave for work if it is raining. Yesterday, when he knew it was going to be a nice day and it was finally April, he stayed home and sat outside on his porch swing waiting to hear the lawnmowers. He was not happy to report that no one in the neighborhood cut their grass yesterday. I need to be more careful when I talk to him. He asked when the lawnmowers would start and I had said "Not until April." Yesterday was April 1st. I disappointed Mr. Literal.

My story will be about Alex and the things he loves, the things that make his life full. I look forward to sharing it with you.
